General FAQ's

When should I schedule my appointment?

 E-mail
Try to schedule your first waxing at a time when you feel rested and relaxed. This helps make your experience a wonderful one—after all, you are doing this for yourself! We want your experience at Sassy Ladies Beauty Bar to be positive and we will do everything we can to make you comfortable. Caffeine, nicotine, and heavy alcohol consumption can make you feel overly sensitive during your treatment, so it may be best to steer clear of these before your appointment.

What do I need to do to prepare for my appointment?

 E-mail
Cleanliness is important. Please shower and clean your entire body before your appointment. Keep in mind that there is a certain amount of nudity involved with waxing, and you may have to move into a couple of positions in order to remove all of the hair and we always keep natural organic wipes on hand for those last minute clean ups.

I am feeling embarrassed! Is this normal?

 E-mail
Don't be embarrassed! While it may seem out of the ordinary for you, this is what we do on a daily basis. We are here to make you comfortable and keep you looking fabulous!

Should I shave before I come in?

 E-mail
Va-jay-jay, hoo-ha, that special place—call it what you will, but please don't shave or trim your bikini area. We will be happy to remove the hair for you. You may think you are helping us out, but you may cut yourself or cut the hair too short which will not allow us to remove all the hair completely.

How long should I let hair grow before waxing?

 E-mail
Hair should be at least ¼ inch long, but preferably ½ inch (about the length of a short grain of rice). This is typically about 2 to 3 weeks of growth. If you are going to trim your hair, take care not to trim it too short. Ideally, we would prefer that you not trim at all and let us take care of that for you. You may accidentally cut yourself or you may trim too short.

Can I still wax when I'm having "my monthly visitor"?

 E-mail
Yes, you can get waxed during your menstrual cycle; just wear a tampon. However, keep in mind that you are likely to be a bit more sensitive during this time. If you schedule a waxing around your period, you may find it to hurt a bit less.

What can I do about the pain? I have sensitive skin.

 E-mail
If you are sensitive to being waxed, you can premedicate with a pain reliever such as Ibuprofen 45 minutes before the procedure. There are also topical products available such as No-Scream Cream and Numb-IT, or you can ask your dermatologist to provide you with a topical numbing cream which takes the sting out of hair removal. It is really not that bad though!

When should I start exfoliating my skin after a wax?

 E-mail
You may start to exfoliate (with the gloves we have here) the next day and continue exfoliating every day until your next visit with us.

What should I do after my wax to take care of my skin? Should I put anything on my skin?

 E-mail
Avoid heat for 24 hours including: hot baths, sauna, steam baths, and exposure to strong UV lights or sun tanning treatments. Do not sun tan for 48 hrs. Do not apply highly fragranced products to waxed areas including: perfume/cologne, scented body lotions, antiperspirant, cosmetics or feminine hygiene sprays. Avoid applying high SPF sun blocks to the waxed area for 24 hrs. as sunscreen chemicals can be irritating to the newly waxed skin (this includes self-tanning products and tan accelerators). Do not use harsh body scrubs/products. Some ingredients that help boost healing: aloe vera gel, tea tree oil, red raspberry and azulene.

How do I avoid ingrown hairs?

 E-mail
We recommend daily use of exfoliating gloves and/or an exfoliating sheet. This is part of maintaining a nicely groomed bikini. Do not pick or try to remove your own ingrown hairs! On your next visit we will get them out for you. Please do not pick and create scabs. If you pick to the point you are bleeding and create a scab you will push the hair further down and cause more irritation.

Can I wax after I've been tanning?

 E-mail
Do not tan the area to be waxed right before waxing! If your skin is sunburned, we cannot wax you. Also, if you have just tanned the wax may cause an abrasion on the area and it will be painful post waxing. Ouch! So, it's best to wait before you tan. We do not recommend tanning or sunbathing after a wax either.

FAQ's about specific SLBB services

What is a basic Bikini Wax?

 E-mail

We basically just remove the sides of a basic underwear/bikini line. Simply basic.

What is a “Skinny Bikini”?

 E-mail
This is our version of a skimpy bikini where we go in a bit more than we do on a basic leaving you feeling sexy and clean, minus the worry of showing in a bathing suit.

What is our “HOLLYWOOD” (Brazilian?)

 E-mail
This is our most popular request when it comes to the bikini area. This involves removing all of your not-so-wanted bits from the front and middle, all the way to the back by your rear. In other words, you won't have any hair left. This is sometimes called a “Full Brazilian”. If you like a “landing strip” or a bit at top be sure to let your esthetician know ahead of time.

How Can I get nicely shaped Eyebrows?

 E-mail

Hey all you brow people!

If you are on Accutane for your skin, waxing on any part of your body is NOT for you. Accutane can cause the skin to thin and lift with the wax.

Also, if you have had a glycolic (and alpha hydroxy acid) or a salicylic acid (beta hydroxy acid) peel, or are using Retin A or Renova or bleaching creams on the area to be waxed, you must wait 2-4 weeks before the area can be waxed. This is especially true for the eyebrows.

All of these skin thinning products do not like wax. These products cause your skin to lift with the wax causing a not so comfortable experience.  Your comfort and safety are our number one concerns, so if you are using any of these topical creams we cannot wax you.

If you are not using the above products let’s get those bushy brows glamified!!

  • Tweezing should not be done for at least 2 weeks before your appointment.
  • Let them grow in so that we can give you the beautiful shape that best suits you.
  • If you must, only between the brows (in the center only).

Bikini art? Be-dazzle your va-jay jay??

 E-mail
We offer bedazzling, beautiful glimmer for special occasions. Ask us what we have in stock and we can bedazzle you!!

We CANNOT WAX the following clients…

Very important! We can’t wax:

  • inside of the nose
  • inside of the ears
  • eyelashes
  • on warts
  • on moles
  • on sunburned skin
  • on recent scar tissue
  • on freshly tattooed skin
  • around body piercings
  • over protruding or varicose veins
  • over open wounds
  • on herpes simplex
  • on areas injected with Botox within the past 72 hrs
  • on skin undergoing skin grafts or dermabrasion or recently treated with AHA's/glycolic acids 8% or higher
  • on recently chemical peeled or invasively exfoliated skin (should wait 4 weeks before waxing)
  • those who use Accutane (must be off of the drug for 6 months before waxing)
  • those who use either Adapalene or Renova or Retin A (must be off the drugs for 3 months before waxing)
  • those who use Tetracycline or other acne medications

You are ready!!  Please remember that the first time is the most uncomfortable and then it gets easier. We recommend booking your appointments every 3 to 4 weeks. Anything longer than that will feel just like the first time again. We also recommend not shaving between services.
